Beep

I finally discovered the configuration setting to stop my PC beeping at me...

I think that illustrates the point reasonably well.

Great! I had an old BBC computer, which I modified similarly. The original didn't have a volume control, and got really rather annoying in the end ...

It was beeping every time a build completed in Visual Studio. I couldn't for the life of me find an option in VC to stop it doing this. It was a particularly offensive beep too. It was like every time I did a build, my PC was saying "No, that isn't good enough.".

You could have just as easily slacked off work (no more builds => no more beeps) and gone down the pub.

Dammit - that's a good idea. Our firewall machine beeps every time you turn it on to complain that it hasn't got a keyboard or monitor. It hadn't occured to me it was that easy to shut it up.

My solution. Less high tech but it does the job.

Near your PC speaker, you could write a little legend that says: "One beep = John has the sexiest bottom" or something.
