Goodbye Rob's Van

Posted on 2003/01/08 13:12:59 (January 2003) by john.

I think you can work out the tune...

Goodbye Rob's Van,
Though I barely knew you at all,
You had the grace to crawl along,
While those around you sped.
If they made tanks yellow,
They would look somewhat like you did,
But you had no armaments,
Just a cooker and some beds.

And it seems to me you lived your life,
Like a camper on the road,
Never knowing where to turn to,
At roundabouts.
And I would have liked to drive you,
But I wasn't qualified,
Your engine burned out long before,
Your legend ever did.

Changing gears was tough,
And hills were a bit of an ordeal,
But that didn't matter much,
You were like a pub on wheels.
Even when you were written off,
By the bastard insurance men,
You still looked cooler than,
A monkey in a frock.

And it seems to me you lived your life,
Like a camper on the road,
Never knowing where to turn to,
At roundabouts.
And I would have liked to drive you,
But I wasn't qualified,
Your engine burned out long before,
Your legend ever did.

Goodbye Rob's Van,
From the bloke in the passenger seat,
Who sees you as something as more than metal,
More than just a camper van.

And it seems to me you lived your life,
Like a camper on the road,
Never knowing where to turn to,
At roundabouts.
And I would have liked to drive you,
But I wasn't qualified,
Your engine burned out long before,
Your legend ever did.

I need help with the tune. I'm thinking American Pie, but can't get the words to fit. Sorry.

John, you clearly are and excellent human being. I think we should get together and record it, don't you? I'll sort out some sort of chords for it.

*tearful*

Good idea Rob! I don't think the true depth of emotion a song like this deserves can be conveyed in text alone...
