Mutant Basil

Posted on 2003/05/15 09:57:06 (May 2003) by john.

It makes me shudder.

I've had this basil plant for a while. The last time I gave it a heavy pruning (I was making pesto), I noticed the biggest leaf had gone a bit, well, odd:

I've only seen this phenomenon once before that I can remember, on a privet (not sure how to spell that) hedge near my Mum's house when I was young. I'm sure it's actually fairly common. Still though, I find it a bit unnerving, and I couldn't bring myself to eat this particular leaf.

Incidentally - look at the URL above - this is the 100th 'Maison article! It seems somehow fitting that it should be on such a bizarre topic. Wonderful!

What a bizarre individual you must be... but, errr, thanks for the input nonetheless.

Well, over Christmas I found a mutant walnut. The shell is usually formed in quarters, with seams running up the length, but this was formed in thirds. Unfortunately I didnt have similar presence of mind and take a photo!
