Water

Posted on 2003/08/19 13:33:05 (August 2003) by john.

You call this clean?

This morning I went to the tap to pour myself a glass of water, and this came out. The picture probably doesn't do it justice - it had settled ever so slightly by this point, so you can just about see through the bottom of the glass. At the point of which I poured it out though, it was like milk. Even after leaving a glass to settle for a few hours, the water inside is still a bit murky.

I've been told by other people who live nearby it's just air bubbles, and the water is perfectly safe to drink, but it is really off putting, and I can't believe the taste isn't going to be affected. And what information have I had? Nothing. No note through the letterbox, and nothing on Thames Water's website, just the predictable corporate bollocks.

Not surprisingly, I'm going to lay the blame for this squarely at the feet of privitisation.

I don't think the privatisation is not to blame. Personally, I'm more concerned about the fact that water from the Thames has (apparently) be drunk 7 times when it reaches London. So it must be about 5th-hand by the time it get to your rather murky pint-glass. I believe it is healthier to avoid water altogether, and stick to nice, safe beer.
