Brave Sir Robin

Posted on 2003/09/05 24:41:48 (September 2003) by john.

I can't imagine a world without Monty Python.

Standing in the kitchen just now, I found myself giggling uncontrollably, all by myself, as a result of singing the "Brave Sir Robin" song from Monty Python and the Holy Grail (sung by Neil Innes). Whilst I go off and look for a reasonably priced psychiatrist, I thought it only good and proper to post the lyrics here, on the off chance it might have the same effect on any of you lot.

Bravely bold Sir Robin rode forth from Camelot.
He was not afraid to die, O brave Sir Robin.
He was not at all afraid to be killed in nasty ways,
Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robin!

He was not in the least bit scared to be mashed into a pulp,
Or to have his eyes gouged out and his elbows broken,
To have his kneecaps split and his body burned away
And his limbs all hacked and mangled, brave Sir Robin!

His head smashed in and his heart cut out
And his liver removed and his bowels unplugged
And his nostrils raped and his bottom burned off
And his pen...

[after meeting the three headed night]

Brave Sir Robin ran away,
Bravely ran away, away.
When danger reared its ugly head, he bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Sir Robin turned about
And gallantly, he chickened out. Bravely taking to his feet,
He beat a very brave retreat,
Bravest of the brave, Sir Robin.

[later on still]

He is packing it in and packing it up
And sneaking away and buggering up
And chickening out and pissing off home,
Yes, bravely he is throwing in the sponge.

So what was wrong with answering the door to us then?

I am genuinely ill, and couldn't face all the "yea yea yea" I would inevitably receive!

Monty Python rocks the cazbah, easy. First time I saw any was The Life of Brian when I was about 13. I'd grown up watching cack American sitcoms so I was unprepared for Python-style humour. I laughed.....my BAWLS off!! Awesome stuff. Thinking of any Python stuff will never fail to bring a smile to my face.
