Smells Like Jazz Metal?Posted on 2003/11/17 12:05:50 (November 2003) by john. Well I thought it was odd, anyway.
I think I'm going mad - I have just been listening to Jazz FM, and suddenly I was hearing a jazz rendition of Nirvana's Smells Like Teen Spirit.
Is this not an extremely bizarre concept...?
Apparently, the band is called The Bad Plus.
Incidentally, I listened to this using the digital TV application I wrote myself. So far you can just play the audio tracks from DTT services, and look at the subtitles. I'm very pleased with it nonetheless.

I think you should go and buy one of those PC/TV Card remote controls (if you don't already have one) and program that in for ultimate chufty value and armchair control!

I made a recording, but I assume I'd get sent to prison if I made it available over the web... wouldn't I?

I think you should do a vocal approximation of it

The Bad Plus -- I've been hearing a lot of them on KNTU lately (Univ of North Texas' jazz station) -- most of what I hear them do sounds kind of like Rachmaninoff with bass and drums, maybe with a little of Ben Folds Five and Medeski, Martin, Wood thrown in. One thing's for sure -- jazz is expanding to include younger repertoire. I think it's because young jazzers like me are getting tired of hearing "you play what?"

They definitely play Metal Jazz and not Jazz Metal. I'd say it's kind of the opposite concept (e.g. a jazz-metal band www.youpi.info which has some sounds online).
