Well (A) that is not my company's opinion, it is mine, and (B) why is declaring the EU to be wrong on a particular issue arrogance?

On a different note, I am installing LEOPARD on the MacBook, it has been quite an easy procedure so far, mind you I completely formatted and reinstalled from scratch, did not trust the "update" option there... (of course I have backed up anything that I thought it was remotely important, knowing perfectly that something WILL go missing...)

Well I'm glad to know a company's arrogance is bigger than the EU. But then I suppose most US corporations do. Nice to meet you all in passing.

... and being oncall sucks in the same way arguing with your wife sucks. It's an unpleasant but unfortunately necessary part of an otherwise wonderful thing.

Let's be clear, I think my company is great and the EU is in the wrong here.

Everyone knows that when you go on payroll for such and such company, automatically you are seen as their property. Laws are there to avoid unfair treatment, that happens in any case, because in the end the employee is the weak link in a company, as it can be replaced any time. What happened to John is quite normal here, and if you compain about it you'd pobably get shouted at for not wanting to "help the company in such a difficult spot" or "bad cooperation skills".... :(

Under EU law you do not have to work more than 48-hours per week. This was done to prevent abuse of people's freedom and to improve their "lot". If your employer politely suggests you "are not for them" for refusing - but doesn't make this point "official" - is quite another story. Whoever that high and mighty company may be....

Morning All, John, you need to work for a 'proper' company where the boss bungs backhanders to people for working extra and has none of that EU bollux. Cut out the middle-(Tax)-Man I say!
