Nice John, Nice.
Don't forget this Saturday is the O'Niels end of exams piss up. Meeting in O'Neils at 8pm downstairs and then going upstairs to boogie and letch. So, Johnny Boy, get your lizard feet over to Reading and get pissed.

I'll be going back to Reading from Paddington around 1700 as I have an NCO course at RAF Uxbridge, you can always join me if you like. Let me know.

How about a tweed jacket for the camper - to keep it warm at night
Simon

You could always dress the computer up in tweed... get some tweed paint or something...

I think that the bleep is all down to your machine having a bad childhood. Try sending it to therapy! See you tonight Johnny boy. Wax the bannister for me.

John

Does anyone know how to disable the beep that I get in MS VC++ 6 whenever I do a build? Its really irritating!
John
- Fri May 25 13:54:05 2001

Is Berwick-Upon-Tweed actually built on a foundation of tweed jackets then?
John
- Fri May 25 12:13:48 2001

I also understand there is a company called 'Limp Biztweed' headed by a chap called Fred Durst who is a great lover of Tweed in all its forms. I understand he wears a red tweed cap all the time. He has a range of tweed with rude words (largely the F word) woven into the fabric. These tweeds are preferred by hardcore farmers as they become more accepted in 'the hood'.
Rob Lang <icar@icar.co.uk>
MADLAB, Reading - Fri May 25 11:46:34 2001

There is a company is Durham called 'Rage Against the Loom' where you can buy tweed jackets, with leather elbow pads emblazened with the logos, Zach's lyrics and images of the man himself. A bargain, starting from £29.99 (while stocks last).
dsp
- Fri May 25 11:23:53 2001

It's a conspiracy! I think the BBC were worried that there would be too many cool people on Question Time so stopped you from going. This is all to do with the BBC buying shares in Tweed fabric suppliers. If the BBC can get more people on telly wearing tweed, then more people will wear it... stocks go up. Clearly Tim and his lady (sorry, don't know her name mate) are too fashionable to wear tweed so they were denied. That is why John is now thinking about tweed jackets in a more favourable light and has even bought some leather elbow pads for his long sleeve Rage Against the Machine T Shirt. It's evil, I tell you.
Rob Lang <icar@icar.co.uk>
MADLAB, Reading - Fri May 25 11:19:33 2001

Sounds a bit harsh! Hmmm I wasn't aware the BBC were standing at the election, although I suppose if they aren't it makes it all the more easier for you to not vote for them. No suspicious didcots, or whatever that problem was at the US election.
John
- Thu May 24 15:37:36 2001

John! Sorry mate. Clare got a phone call saying they had oversubscribed her age-group and that she couldn't got. So I didn't out of principle. I shaln't be voting for the BBC!

John

Don't worry John, the conversation mostly revolved around Brown being a fool. Mr Gasson is kicking himself for missing the pub night last night. He went to bed early with a 'headache'.
Rob Lang <icar@icar.co.uk>
MADLAB, Reading - Thu May 24 13:37:40 2001

I spent ages in a pub last night watching the TV to try and see if I could see Tim and failed. Bloody useless.

John

Simon
- Wed May 23 08:59:10 2001

Simon: Not really. I currently have an inbalance of unmanagability, possibly still left over from 2 years ago. Anyway, I am extremely tempted to become unmanagable. Which really is no bad thing. Except if I am at work, demonstrating a product.
Unmanagibility determines that I must (when coding the new product) put infinite loops in other peoples work and also delete links between pages, or even better taking our corporate clients off to www.maison-de-stuff.net .

John
- Tue May 22 15:52:49 2001

I'd love to get the chance to ask a politician why they feel it necessary to turn every incident ever into an attack on the opposition. (e.g. egg throwing, foot and mouth, moving the election, keith vaz, the dome etc etc etc). Can't they see that over time constant oppositionalism only wittles down the public's perception of that fact that you've actually got a standpoint and something worthwhile to say in the first place. Not to mention it makes them all look a bit petty and childish.
John
- Tue May 22 14:52:54 2001

Bloody hell - I didn't see that other message. Obviously there's a consensus here on the why bother thing.
John
- Tue May 22 14:46:06 2001

Exif - there's an explanation on the site... You know Jfif don't you? Well its like that, only better. As for question time, errr, the only question I can think of asking is him is why are you bothering... hmmm but I'm sure there must be some vetting process so they probably wouldn't let you. Don't let yourself become a pawn in the propoganda machine, Tim!
John

I think, as far as William Hague is concerned. 'Why bother?' would be appropriate.

They all seemed to get off the train at Southampton, which made sense. Evidently there is a big 'scene' there for that kind of music at the moment, or something. Simon - it transpires via a cruel twist of fate that I'm actually free now this weekend... Any chance you too are free? Any chance of building Mr. Ellis in as well somehow? As some kind of post birthday shindig (whatever the fuck one of those is). How about we all oddly stay in a hotel in Swindon or something mad.
John

Yea, Happy Birthday Mr. Ellis, I hope its a good one!

Jamie, Jamie, Jamie and the Magic Torch.
Down the helter skelter,
faster and faster towards Cuckoo Land.

Wordsworth, Wordsworth, following hard behind.
Ready for adventure, always there to lend
a paw or a hand!

Mr Boo and all the others too,
the strangest people you've ever seen.
And the torch with it's magical beam,
If I hadn't really been there
I'd think that I was dreaming!

Jamie, Jamie, no two nights are the same.
And life is one long glorious game
with Jamie -
Jamie and the Magic Torch !!!!

Alright there my boys?

I also consumed alcoholic beverages on Saturday, and oddly (and scarily) was unable to order bottles of Guiness. The conversation was: Me :'Two bottles of Guiness please' Barmaid :'Two tequilas with lemon?' Me :'No. Two bottles of Guiness please.' I was then served two glasses of tequila (with lemon) and was unable to find the energy to argue so just drunk them anyway.

We cooked Hungarian stew using a small cauldron dangled over a camp fire on Sunday whilst drinking wine. Which was nice. Where is the soon_to_be_excited boy then??!! Has anyone arranged for Kylie to see him with a big birthday *suprise* yet??!

Sorry Rob, but I wasn't around at that time of night, I'm not sure John was either. But I am now.
I think we should all engage Jon Ellis in conversation, because tomorrow is a very exciting day for him!!

Well, I thought I'd try and engage TIM and JOHN in a jokey-one-on-one conversation I don't understand. Sounds like your last weekends were quite cool. I spent Saturday having a jam session with some of the boys and then to the ever shit Reading beer festival. They ran out of beer on the Saturday. How shit is that? And on Sunday I saw Bridget Jones's Diary. Monday I had to go into campus to work. Not what I would call the best weekend in the world. Still, as John says, it could be worse.

John
- Tue May 8 14:00:26 2001

Apparently, due to recent events, the amusing teenage pastime of cow tipping has now been replaced with a more energy efficient one. Why waste all that time pushing cows over when with some red paint, water, a couple of sleeping pills and a bucket of sherbert you can fake a foot and mouth outbreak and have the whole herd slaughtered?
John
- Tue May 8 13:57:38 2001

A melon? Say, that must have required either a front mounted basket or some awkward handlebar / carrier bag configuration... Perhaps you ought to have got a pair to make the balancing right? Pfffffftttt...
John
- Tue May 8 13:53:20 2001

The bike ride was with Clare.
Initially it was to the shops for some milk and a melon.
That trip was so enjoyable, we decided to go on a quick trip around the local area to inspect how many cows we left.
To our delight, there are no poorly cows in the area.
dsp

Tim, tell me more of your bike-riding escapades... Where to/from, how long, who with...?
John
- Tue May 8 13:04:39 2001

No, not quite that spontaneous - it was organised the day before. It was a toss-up between Rejkavik, Edinburgh and Paris, so we plumped for the one we thought would be warmest. If only we'd gone for Karachi (dunno how to spell that - you know, in Pakistan) instead, as it was apparently a pleasant 51 degrees centigrade there over the weekend. Nice.
John
- Tue May 8 13:03:59 2001

JOHN!Was it some kind of dare/bet that sent you to Paris at drinking up time?
dsp

TIM: It's nice to talk to YOU. Your weekend sounds like fun! I went to Paris on a whim, which was also fun. Slightly disappointed about it actually being colder there than it was here, but never mind.
John
- Tue May 8 12:49:55 2001

John, I am about to deliberately engage YOU in conversion, here goes.
How are you? Did you have a nice bank-holiday weekend?
I had a cocktail of bike-rides, sunshine, bar-be-ques, alcohol and other physically exercising activities.
Which was nice.

Capitalism Has Ended

The protests yesterday have all worked and all the major countries have decided to call it a day and give up with the whole Capitalism thing. I'd like to say thanks to them, without their protests and turfing the streets, we'd be living in a hole of consumerism. Which would be a disaster.

Not deliberately elusive, just not much room in an SMS! Details are: Saturday 9th June: Luke Morley (light rock/indie) Borderline, off Charing Cross Road, 8pm. 10 in advance (ticketweb's your best bet) or 12 on the door if they have any left. Any Londonites welcome. Failing that, we should be around the West End for most of the afternoon if meetingage is required.

Just looked at your pictures John - looks like it was pretty cool in Japan.. congrats :) I'm now apparantly joining you guys in SBU on the 4th June. Shouldn't be too bad. At least there I won't have the pleasure of having to work in a tiny office directly next to a burke who spends ages chatting online *in voice-chat* to people online in Malaysian, and can't tolerate working a minute without having a bloody internet radio broadcast playing. Personally I'm almost in favour of waiting until he's out of the office (quite often, thank god) then pulling the sound board out of his PC, but knowing my luck it'll be one of those integrated jobbies. Oh, by the way, my sincerest sympathies to anyone at CAFM who is using those mutant toaster Compaqs.

Well done Tim! I'm getting into the spirit of the thing too. I have given all over my overdraft to charity, turfed the side of my house, burnt down the University and then sprayed 'Wankers' across a war memorial. I think I've done my bit and really tweaked the nose of capitalism. Long live.... erm... anti-capitalists (cos the alternative to capitalism is much better: communism, the police state, repression, suspicion, poverty and destitution)!!!!
