You don't think their sample was drawn from ice cream tasters, demolition experts and the judges for Miss World, by any chance....?

Travis - I will bear the thrashing option in mind for next time a group of strangers come and sing to me.
John
- Mon Jul 26 08:58:27 2004

John, it's never a bad time to deliver a thrashing. But I understand how it could have been done in good spirits. Incidentally, it's STILL fairly early...or at least not late.

Jimmy: Its a boat to Harris, apparently there's not always food. Cyberdad organised a motorbike rally based in Uig and because he had a large number of people interested they laid it on. But in summer months it might be standard.
Mad Mumsie
- Fri Jul 23 08:33:21 2004

Did that singing bit really happen, John? If so, I would have destroyed those who were singing. Isn't it a song about breaking up? They likely cursed your relationship. A sound thrashing sounds appropriate.
Travis

- Thu Jul 22 18:39:42 2004

Yes Travis - I was talking about Dry Your Eyes. I think a big part of why I like it is that when me and Chie were at Glastonbury Festival, we were sitting on the muddy ground at one point, drinking some coffee, and suddenly a big group of people turned up out of the blue, surrounded us, and started singing that song to us. It was a bit embarassing at the time, but looking back you might call it "a Glastonbury moment".

John, been out of the loop for a while. I just now saw your post about The Streets. Which song are you referencing? I'm a fan...I've heard their 1st album and a few from their new one. 'Dry Your Eyes', 'Fit but you Know It' are the newer ones, methinks.

Not the big boat, surely? And by "Big" I mean the car-ferry to the Outer Hebrides. I've been on that quite a few times (used to have relatives out there, beyond Skye) - it used to be a horrible, rattling, sea-sickness-inducing bastard of a boat. I have never once known the water to be calm - it's always been choppy and has always made me turn a weird colour.
Jimmy
- Wed Jul 21 12:55:50 2004

They also do a fairly good late afternoon boat trip from there to one of the other islands, can't remember which one. You don't have to get off the boat, but the cost, which was very reasonable, included what they call tea, but turned out to be quite a good meal.

Whisk[e]y tasting memory loss. On Saturday I tasted loads of really nice whiskies with my brother-in-law. There was a cask strength Macallam, Isle of Jura, and lots of others I cannot remember, including a 15-year something. Trouble is, this always happens, and I have previously vowed to take digital photos of the ones I like for future reference. But standardly, I got pissed and forgot.

There's a brewery in Uig?! Last I saw, there was a pier, and not a lot else. I shall see if I can hunt it down, during my planned excursion around the island. As for the Talisker distillery ... no, I've never been there either. Another one for the list!

Why up to 200 GB then...? Are you only ever allowed to buy 200 discs? Or is that the number an average pack horse can carry...?
John

I think that their implication is you could buy lots of additional discs. As far as I am aware, a single discs data capacity is 1GB. The older style discs is 200 or 300 MB.
