I mean, I can't recall

John: Hello. My FTP address, could you give back to me? Forgot about it.
Fri Jul 31 17:35:07 2009
Thanks Nigel! Yes it was overall quite a good break, but the weather was generally awful, and the places we visited were not all that scintillating (the Plymouth Gin Distillery tour was a bit of an anti-climax, for example)... but the day on Dartmoor was definitely a highlight - I absolutely loved it.
Mon Jul 27 08:08:00 2009
Ah, excellent photos from the holiday John!!! Brings back a lot of memories of the area. We actually stayed just out side Widdecombe (I couldn't help that Victoria Wood song going through my mind - Anne Widdecombe - probably a different spelling but I still can't help laughing!) in a converted barn/farm place.
And the views from Dartmoor and the ponies... That view out to sea is marvellous, isn't it?
Hope you enjoyed the break!

Just another Sunday, but thought I'd clean out the Maison - brush in hand! Moving over to the PC platform again - looking forward to Windows 7! :-D
Sun Jul 26 18:20:13 2009
Lox: Well, I'm dead tired. Raising 3 kids is a vocation for sure. How are you? Don't hear a lot about Chiara. Did you two break up?
Tue Jul 21 20:50:14 2009
Hi Nigel. I don't really see the point. But never mind. It's just a weird feeling. I mean... the message board being deserted. Reminds me of that English movie. You know, that guy who wakes up in hospital, only to realise that London is completely deserted (or so he thought...) !
Tue Jul 21 20:46:25 2009
Well Twitter costs nothing and enables more interactive chat with more friends, I guess. Easy to post entries and photos on the move too, for all the high-flying execs like me... (Not!! :-D)
You can regulate who sees your input and because of the Maison link you can write a longer entry here and it will get noticed in Twitter.
Tue Jul 21 19:46:56 2009
No I am not on twitter but the board is quite dead because of it... I am saddened about it but it seems that the other guys are having so much fun with it... :( What are you up to Sheri?
Tue Jul 21 18:49:44 2009
Ah I got it! All on twitter, right?
Tue Jul 21 17:58:16 2009
Someone in here? hello?
Tue Jul 21 17:56:50 2009
Afternoon Sheri! Glad the PC is sorted now.
Sun Jul 19 12:15:42 2009
And morning all again...
Sun Jul 19 08:45:12 2009
Nigel: about the little problem with my computer. It turns out that the hard disk was partially damaged. Had to be replaced. Fortunately I always keep copies of all my files using an external hard disk. Works fine, now. Much quicker as a matter of fact.

Simon - there's a list of Twitter usernames in the ASP page which merges Twitter posts and message board messages. At the moment it's a case of manually editing the ASP file. I can do this later on when I'm back at home.
Tue Jul 14 15:36:17 2009
Apologies for being utterly thick, but how to I get messages I post on Twitter to appear on the board?
Tue Jul 14 13:33:14 2009
JM: I seeeeeeee, didn't know that there was such a difference... Having said that the "cannelloni incident" was just a spelling mistake, that normally happens in english speaking countries such as "macaroni (instead of MACCHERONI)" and many others that now I forgot... :P
Sun Jul 12 23:01:27 2009
No "e" in whisky, Lox, unless it is Irish.
(that pays you back for the cannelloni!)
Sun Jul 12 22:17:29 2009
So apparently all UK citizens are getting innoculated against swine flu in the autumn. Someone in gubermint was watching Torchwood last week I think!
Sun Jul 12 21:57:05 2009
Italian news said that in the UK the government is proposing to increase taxes on Whiskey... I thought of John immediately.. I wonder what he's thinking about it... :P
Sun Jul 12 21:06:36 2009
Gloriously sunny in Italy... :D
Sun Jul 12 18:29:06 2009
Afternoon Sheri. A bit of a dreary one here in London.
Sun Jul 12 17:29:50 2009
Sun Jul 12 15:23:32 2009
Fri Jul 10 20:18:49 2009
Nope. Doesn't work. I'll take it to the shop tomorrow. Thanks anyway.
Thu Jul 9 17:38:29 2009
Thanks for the trouble, Nigel.
It seems that there is some progress now. McAfee succeeds in sending them to quarantine. From there I can delete them. Fingers crossed. (But why the hell Spybot wouldn't work?! I uninstalled it twice and replaced it with the new version. Same problem. Wouldn't boot up (if that's the right term).
Thu Jul 9 15:58:57 2009
Sheri - Or maybe _ http://www.pcthreat.com/parasitebyid-6533en.html
Both links seem to offer hope. The second one a specific removal route. However there seems to be several versions of FakeAlert.*
I don't recommend dowloading just any removal tool - a Norton or McAfee or AVG one would be best and most trusted. I like the manual file-removal route using an external boot drive etc.

A boot CD? Errr. It's already too complicated for me. Christelle should be back soon. She's smarter than I am for those things. I'll tell you more about it.
Thu Jul 9 15:00:40 2009
What if I threaten my computer with a baseball bat? D'think it'be be more cooperative? Woudn't even allow me to "restore" it to an earlier date.
Thu Jul 9 14:56:35 2009
Sheri - Can your laptop burn a boot CD? Did you make a boot disk restore disk when you installed the virus checker? If so boot from that (change BIOS setting if necessary) If memory serves me correctly you can scan from the boot disk to remove any infections. Also you can build a boot disk with SpyBot or AdAware on it too...
Thu Jul 9 14:52:52 2009
Using my laptop for the time being.
Thu Jul 9 14:47:20 2009
Hi Nigel. I've got Mc Affee: it detects 4 Fakealert spywares but cannot delete them. As for spybot, it won't start for some reason. Both have been updated yesterday though. Apparently I infected my pc via my memory stick. Used a non protected (or not fully protected) computer at work.
Thu Jul 9 14:45:56 2009
Sheri - update virus checker if it allows. If not run it anyway - also try SpyBot. They should clean it. As you can get to the Maison web-site, try Norton/AVG etc web-sites, if they're not blocked, for specifics...
Thu Jul 9 14:37:37 2009
'Lo everyone. Fakealert - I suppose it rings a bell to most of you. My system got infected. How do I get rid of this shit?
Thu Jul 9 13:40:54 2009
Well say hi to Tim and do not bring him to eat Quorn (you know it has been banned by the "save the animals" associations now), I suggest the libanese restaurant where we went together, or if everything fails, MacDonalds...
Thu Jul 9 12:49:32 2009
Thanks for the offer, but it would probably smell of Quorn.
Thu Jul 9 08:54:37 2009
I can bring in a spare if you can manage without until lunchtime... :)
Thu Jul 9 08:28:13 2009
I can confirm that rumour. Just trying to find the finishing pieces of my suit. i.e. a black sock.
Thu Jul 9 08:23:02 2009
Tim is apparently in London today, and hopefully going to come to my office for lunch...
Thu Jul 9 08:20:26 2009
Now in Munich waiting for the next flight to Florence.... I am knackered!
Sat Jul 4 16:37:15 2009
would YOU mind...
Fri Jul 3 15:05:12 2009
Say, Nigel, would mind correcting my English as I write my stuff on Roman and Greek ancients ? Would you be able to devote some of your time to it. Doesn't require much. Just need to know if the syntax is correct.
Fri Jul 3 14:44:11 2009
Kev: Excellent find!! :-D As it happens I also own the book from the site http://www.nicecupofteaandasitdown.com/
Wed Jul 1 19:11:59 2009
Toast - http://www.toastfun.com/ - for those of you in twitter-land

Wed Jul 1 17:22:29 2009
I think it's better. People waffle all the time. Best not to.
Wed Jul 1 15:59:49 2009
Sheri - there's no committment or cost, it's just a more modern way to communicate. I was skeptical at first having tried a few "social networking" sites. You can choose who you talk to and who follows your chat. It's reachable through a lot more devices and there's free pic hosting and vid hosting through twitpic and twitvid.
Wed Jul 1 15:54:54 2009
Sheri: I do not like Twitter, it's a sort of real time sms thingy that has a meaning if you also have a connection with you all the time... Unfortunately I do not have it so I do not use it all that much... The limit to the characters that you can use is 140, so it's really to communicate very short sentences and states of mind.
Wed Jul 1 15:12:05 2009
like Brookes' cartoon about Irak: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/comment/cartoon/
Wed Jul 1 11:23:12 2009
Pleaaaaase, what's so special about Twitter?! What does it make? And use simple words for a simple mind!
