Thanks Nigel! Yes it was overall quite a good break, but the weather was generally awful, and the places we visited were not all that scintillating (the Plymouth Gin Distillery tour was a bit of an anti-climax, for example)... but the day on Dartmoor was definitely a highlight - I absolutely loved it.

Ah, excellent photos from the holiday John!!! Brings back a lot of memories of the area. We actually stayed just out side Widdecombe (I couldn't help that Victoria Wood song going through my mind - Anne Widdecombe - probably a different spelling but I still can't help laughing!) in a converted barn/farm place.

And the views from Dartmoor and the ponies... That view out to sea is marvellous, isn't it?

Hope you enjoyed the break!

Just another Sunday, but thought I'd clean out the Maison - brush in hand! Moving over to the PC platform again - looking forward to Windows 7! :-D

Hi Nigel. I don't really see the point. But never mind. It's just a weird feeling. I mean... the message board being deserted. Reminds me of that English movie. You know, that guy who wakes up in hospital, only to realise that London is completely deserted (or so he thought...) !

Hi Guys!
Well Twitter costs nothing and enables more interactive chat with more friends, I guess. Easy to post entries and photos on the move too, for all the high-flying execs like me... (Not!! :-D)
You can regulate who sees your input and because of the Maison link you can write a longer entry here and it will get noticed in Twitter.
Nigel
Tue Jul 21 19:46:56 2009

No I am not on twitter but the board is quite dead because of it... I am saddened about it but it seems that the other guys are having so much fun with it... :( What are you up to Sheri?

Nigel: about the little problem with my computer. It turns out that the hard disk was partially damaged. Had to be replaced. Fortunately I always keep copies of all my files using an external hard disk. Works fine, now. Much quicker as a matter of fact.

Simon - there's a list of Twitter usernames in the ASP page which merges Twitter posts and message board messages. At the moment it's a case of manually editing the ASP file. I can do this later on when I'm back at home.

Apologies for being utterly thick, but how to I get messages I post on Twitter to appear on the board?

JM: I seeeeeeee, didn't know that there was such a difference... Having said that the "cannelloni incident" was just a spelling mistake, that normally happens in english speaking countries such as "macaroni (instead of MACCHERONI)" and many others that now I forgot... :P

No "e" in whisky, Lox, unless it is Irish. (that pays you back for the cannelloni!)

Thanks for the trouble, Nigel. It seems that there is some progress now. McAfee succeeds in sending them to quarantine. From there I can delete them. Fingers crossed. (But why the hell Spybot wouldn't work?! I uninstalled it twice and replaced it with the new version. Same problem. Wouldn't boot up (if that's the right term).

Sheri - Or maybe _ http://www.pcthreat.com/parasitebyid-6533en.html

Both links seem to offer hope. The second one a specific removal route. However there seems to be several versions of FakeAlert.*

I don't recommend dowloading just any removal tool - a Norton or McAfee or AVG one would be best and most trusted. I like the manual file-removal route using an external boot drive etc.

Sheri - Can your laptop burn a boot CD? Did you make a boot disk restore disk when you installed the virus checker? If so boot from that (change BIOS setting if necessary) If memory serves me correctly you can scan from the boot disk to remove any infections. Also you can build a boot disk with SpyBot or AdAware on it too...
Nigel
Thu Jul 9 14:52:52 2009

Using my laptop for the time being.

Thu Jul 9 14:47:20 2009

Hi Nigel. I've got Mc Affee: it detects 4 Fakealert spywares but cannot delete them. As for spybot, it won't start for some reason. Both have been updated yesterday though. Apparently I infected my pc via my memory stick. Used a non protected (or not fully protected) computer at work.
Sheri
Thu Jul 9 14:45:56 2009

Sheri - update virus checker if it allows. If not run it anyway - also try SpyBot. They should clean it. As you can get to the Maison web-site, try Norton/AVG etc web-sites, if they're not blocked, for specifics...
Nigel
Thu Jul 9 14:37:37 2009

'Lo everyone. Fakealert - I suppose it rings a bell to most of you. My system got infected. How do I get rid of this shit?

Well say hi to Tim and do not bring him to eat Quorn (you know it has been banned by the "save the animals" associations now), I suggest the libanese restaurant where we went together, or if everything fails, MacDonalds...

Sheri - there's no committment or cost, it's just a more modern way to communicate. I was skeptical at first having tried a few "social networking" sites. You can choose who you talk to and who follows your chat. It's reachable through a lot more devices and there's free pic hosting and vid hosting through twitpic and twitvid.
Nigel
Wed Jul 1 15:54:54 2009

Sheri: I do not like Twitter, it's a sort of real time sms thingy that has a meaning if you also have a connection with you all the time... Unfortunately I do not have it so I do not use it all that much... The limit to the characters that you can use is 140, so it's really to communicate very short sentences and states of mind.
