Plemont Beach and A Night Out in Rozel
Tuesday 19th July 2011
After two rather miserable days of weather at the start of our holiday, the sun was actually shining this morning! So we tried to make the most of it while it lasted, and visited Grosnez Castle, Plemont Beach and a few other things. Also did a bit of an eating and drinking tour of Rozel, including afternoon tea at our hotel, an early evening snack at the Hungry Man Kiosk, a drink at the Rozel Bar, and dinner at the Navigator.

Breakfast in the convervatory (we moved in here half way through to get some sun).

10:09:21
Rather nice in here.

10:15:21
Was pleased to find small jars of HP sauce - but also just generally pleased that the weather was much better today.

11:32:14
First off we headed to Plemont Beach...

11:36:10
...although began to realise the tide was still in...

11:39:10
....and the beach was all covered up!

11:39:24

11:57:10
So while we were waiting for the tide to go out, we went to visit nearby Grosnez castle.

11:58:38
There isn't a whole lot left of it, but it's in a rather nice spot with views we could actually appreciate as the skies were a lot clearer than they had been the last couple of days.

11:59:08

12:00:16

12:02:18
The coastline around Grosnez - quite dramatic I hope you'll agree.

12:02:31

12:03:23
We could see across to some of the other Channel Islands from here - bits of Sark and Guernsey visible there I think.

12:04:57

12:12:49
A little fishing boat that we followed around later on as well.

12:16:52

12:22:34

12:24:03
Some wild flora.

12:24:14

12:28:13
Looking across to Plemont Beach....

12:28:22
....and you can see part of it is uncovered now.

12:33:43
Chie wanted to take a picture of the gorse and the heather as we were leaving Grosnez.

12:33:49

12:33:56

12:43:46
Back to Plemont beach now - and we were among the first people on it as the life guards opened it up for the day.

12:45:13
There's the life guard leading the way down there.

12:48:35
There was a little pool to wade through at the bottom of the steps.

12:50:23
The weather wasn't exactly barmy and tropical - I didn't quite feel like swimming - but it was warm and pleasant enough to be happy to walk along barefoot.

12:50:56
There's that little fishinh boat again.

12:51:13

12:54:39
As an added bonus to this very nice beach there were caves to explore.

12:55:40

12:56:09

12:58:14

13:08:12

13:31:41
An interesting artefact of flotsam and or jetsam.

13:31:48

13:33:42

13:34:38
Inside one of the caves.

14:07:39
Later on, after leaving Plemont beach we continued to potter along the North coast, and stopped off here to briefly visit the Greve de Lecq, qhich had this old (apparently 12th Century) mill, now an Inn.

14:12:55
The mill wheel at the side.

15:07:47
Back to our hotel again now. I rather like this leafy wall.

15:32:42
We were determined to use our balcony, so decided to take afternoon tea out there.

15:32:54

15:35:11
A simple but very pleasant afternoon tea - some rather nice fruit scones with Jersey clotted cream.

15:35:19
Close up on the scones.

15:37:34

15:39:05
This was very pleasant!

16:25:24
After afternoon tea but before dinner we went for a second kind of meal which I can't think of any good name for. I was itching to try the Hungry Man kiosk on the pier in Rozel, particularly as they had such an impressively long vegetarian menu.

16:29:06
Here's me getting stuck into my veggie sausage and bacon bap ...

16:29:12
(Yes, veggie bacon too!) This was fantastic.

16:29:34
Chie with a mug of hot bovril.

16:56:20
After that we thought it might be good to try and walk off the calories so went for a stroll up above Rozel.

16:57:18
An interesting garden we passed, with lots of signs.

16:57:27

18:51:33
Later on we headed over to Gorey for a quick early evening wander around, a look at the castle, and an ultimately unsuccessful scout for a potential place to have dinner.

18:58:21

19:24:13
Although there isn't much to the town of Gorey itself, the castle does make it look rather pretty.

19:24:24

19:52:48
Back to Rozel, and we started off the evening proper with a quick drink at the Rozel Bar and Restaurant, just a minute or two's walk from our hotel. Here's a pint of Liberation Ale (actually if I recall correctly this was in fact their blond beer).

19:53:02
The fire place at the Rozel Bar and Restaurant, which presumably at one time was called the Rozel Bay Inn.

19:53:35

20:09:58
The harbour in Rozel looks a bit nicer with some water in it!

21:51:36
The Navigator, an Italian seafood restaurant, where we had dinner. One of the smallest restaurants I've been to, and all the more charming for it.

21:51:48
Ducks on the beach. How odd.

21:53:27
This is me trying to take a picture of the slipway leading into the sea at night - it's odd because it has the dotted lines in the middle as though it were a road. Anyway, it was a bit too dark and this didn't really work.
