Friday 11th March 2011
Left Eze in the morning, and got the bus along the cost to Villefranche-sur-mer, where we'd be spending our next night at the Welcome Hotel.
Cote d'Azur March 2011
Views from our room in the morning at the Chateau de la Chevre d'Or in Eze.
The notion of ironing a shirt whilst overlooking the Mediterranean rather appealed to me.
Breakfast out on our balcony - it was ever so slightly chilly but this was still rather lovely nonetheless.
The basket of viennoiseries.
Chie looking out the window.
Chie was determined to have breakfast in her dressing gown (so much so she put it on over the top of her clothes).
The plates here were rather cute.
More nice views of the Cap Ferrat.
Chie basking in the morning sun on our balcony.
I was trying out just wearing the gillet (?) from my coat.
I rather liked this mural in our room - particularly nice sense of perspective in this shot.
A few more pictures of Eze as we were leaving.
Chie meets a cat with an itchy head.
Taken from the bus. Bye bye Eze!
Now in Villefranche-sur-mer. This was taken on our way down from the top of the town (where the bus dropped us off) to the centre.
The Welcome Hotel and the harbour.
Close up on the Welcome Hotel.
I really like the coloured buildings in Villefranche.
In our hotel room now - which had two balconies (!) - looking out over the town from one of them...
....and looking out over the harbour from the other balcony. Not sure if it was just a coincidence that we were put in the room with the Union Jack on the balcony.
The other side of the Welcome Hotel, seen from the ground.
By the harbour.
Lunch at one of the cafes lining the harbour. This was a pretty good omelette.
Apple tart to follow.
After lunch we went for a walk to the Villa Kerylos, which took us round the bay from Villefranche.
The beach at Villefranche.
Looking back towards the town centre.
There's the Villa Kerylos - a recreation of a Greek Villa built by a wealthy French banker.
Inside the villa, the rather nice tiled interior of the room with the bath in.
There's the bath.
The courtyard in the middle.
The shower room - apparently quite a rarity in its day.
Some rather nice taps.
I thought this looked a bit like Rory McGrath.
Looking across the bay to the Rothschilds villa, which we visited on our previous trip to the South of France.
The Kerylos villa from the outside.
Looking East along the coast from the Villa Kerylos - the weather was starting to look a bit moody by this point.
A fittingly art deco map of Saint Jean Cap Ferrat, much loved by Noel Coward and chums.
Walking back into Villefranche now.
On the beach again.
Having a wander around the backstreets of Villefranche.
The Rue Obscura - apparently quite ancient.
Actually a bit scary in here!
Le Serre - the pizza place where we ended up having dinner later on.
Some of the various nice stepped passageways in Villefranche.
Nice flower growing out of a wall.
Going for a wak along the seafront to the port of Villefranche.
Here's the port.
I thought this looked a bit like a toy.
The fort in Villefranche.
Villefranche harbour by night.
The backstreets by night.
Dinner at Le Serre. Note the chap peering into shot in the background.
My pizza at Le Serre - this was pretty tasty.
