Saturday on the South Dorset Ridgeway
Saturday 1st April 2023
Walked from Osmington Mills to Bronkham Hill today. Watched the sunset from Bronkham Hill and had a sort of tagine for dinner there, with a few glasses of Gevrey Chambertin.

On arrival at Osmington Mills, one end of the South Dorset Ridgeway, where I started my walk. This is the Smuggler's Inn.

13:28:02
The fireplace and an old cannon inside the Smuggler's Inn.

13:44:40
The view of the sea as I headed out of Osmington Mills.

13:55:21
The climb out of Osmington Mills.

14:14:43
The village of Osmington, which was quite pretty.

14:17:51
I particularly liked this house with the little crenellated gate.

14:28:22
Quite muddy in places today.

14:37:40
The views heading up White Horse Hill. A bit grey at this point in the day but I was enjoying the scenery regardless.

14:37:43
Looking back towards Osmington.

14:45:36
The sky started to clear a bit while I was atop White Horse Hill.

Me on top of White Horse Hill.

14:57:15
Long straight track leading away from White Horse Hill.

15:01:09
More views down to Portland.

15:01:13

15:03:41
I was rather taken with this little pile of stones in a dew pond.

15:08:33

15:10:27

15:46:37
The reason for all the selfies is I was trying to find a good thumbnail for the YouTube video I was making. I think this is Bincombe Hill now.

15:52:03

16:11:19
Birds overhead, I think this was the other side of the tiny village of Bincombe.

16:11:22

16:17:28
Yes this was the track leading out of Bincombe.

16:17:33

16:31:52
One of many barrows I passed along the way - this is on Bincombe Down.

16:31:56
The view from Bincombe Down.

17:23:24
The final slog to Bronkham Hill.

18:35:02
Bronkham Hill now. amongst the gorse bushes.

19:19:10
My dinner this evening - some sort of tagine (cous cous with a kind of vaguely North African stew in the billy can) eaten while watching the sunset. I love rays from the setting sun in this picture.

19:19:22
Another one in landscape orientation.

19:19:42

19:24:37
Me and the billy can and the sun setting over my shoulder.

19:24:50

19:28:49
Tonight's Gevrey Chambertin.

19:40:01
Really lovely sunset, and all the more enjoyable as I seemed to have the whole hill to myself.

19:40:09
Enjoying the last rays of the sun with a glass of Gevrey Chambertin.

19:40:15

20:03:01
Tonight's tent setup, slightly discreet behind the gorse bushes.

I woke in the middle of the night to go and use the facilities, and the moon was shining.

03:07:36
...plus a few stars.

03:07:54
Very nice.
