London to the Forest of Dean
Monday 12th April 2021
Drove from London to the Forest of Dean today, with a brief stop off at Birdlip Hill to admire the view, then at Awre to visit Seven Cider. Spent the evening at our holiday cottage in Clearwell with Chinese takeaway from Coleford for dinner.

A not very glamorous lunch at Oxford services just off the M40.

13:57:21
Birdlip Hill.

13:57:28
More views from Birdlip Hill.

13:57:53
I was rather delighted to be here - the first time I'd had a view like this since in at least 6 months.

13:57:56
I think this one probably came out best (in terms of how straight the horizon is at least!).

13:57:58

14:48:46
We briefly stopped at Newnham to use the loo, and I took a couple of pictures of the Rivern Severn there. Must be a great spot to watch the Severn Bore from!

14:48:48

15:08:43
Next stop was Severn Cider in Awre - the shop was still being refurbished so instead I headed straight to the warehouse / cidery to pick up some cider and perry.

15:08:45
More pictures of the inside of the cidery / warehouse.

15:17:39
The outside of the barn.

15:17:53
Looks like these vats may have previously been used for ice cream?

15:55:06
Our home for the next four nights - this cottage in Clearwell in the Forest of Dean.

The cottage as seen from the garden.

Erika and I exploring the cottage.

The main bedroom.

16:16:15
More views from the garden.

17:09:56
The little lane the cottage was on.

17:27:40
The menu of the Chinese takeaway in Coleford from which I picked up tonight's dinner. It was worringly cheap but the food was actually pretty good.

17:27:43
More of the menu.

17:36:37
The centre of Coleford. I had a bit of a wait for the food to be prepared.

18:00:03
Reassuringly there was a shop selling druidy type things in Coleford. The rest of the town felt a bit grim to be honest.

18:11:00
Back to the little lane in Clearwell where our cottage was. Nice sky now.

18:22:54
Chie and Erika having dinner in the cottage.

19:30:58
Got the wood burner going after dinner.

20:01:21
Toasting the sunset with a glass of perry from Severn Cider.

20:01:27
The view of the sunset from here is a bit obscured but still a nice glimpse of orangey pink sky.

20:04:22
The view from the upstairs window.

20:54:30
The two ciders and a perry I bought from Severn Cider.

The fire again.
