Actually the Winter Solstice
Monday 21st December 2020
It was good in way that we'd also marked the winter solstice the day before, as the weather was much nicer then. Today it was more of a grey solitary trudge to be on the heath at dawn. Later on practiced setting up a tarp using taut line hitch knots in the garden.

On arrival on the heath a bit before sunrise. As you can see a bit of a grey and drizzly morning!

Not looking particularly wondrous atop Parliament Hill.

The barrow looking a bit misty and mysterious.

I realised I had effectively brought my own sun with me, which was just as well given the real one couldn't be seen.

Once again, like yesterday, I sat by the barrow through the actual moment of the sunrise. Probably not the best spot for it, but I doubt I would have seen anything on the top of Parliament Hill today either.

Just remembering the fact I was there - and I quite liked the way the barrow is framed by my umbrella here.

Back to the top of Parliament Hill to see if any views were to be had.

08:14:48
No, just mud really.

Back at home, I decided to practice taugh line hitches as a way of tensioning a tarp without any of those little plastic toggle things you usually get on guy ropes.

We seem to have accumulated rather a lot of pasta - not panic buying per se, but over the last few weeks I've been buying an extra bag each time, and it has built up somewhat.
