More Porcini
Saturday 14th September 2019
Went to Borough Market to buy some hideously overpriced porcini (one of which turned out to be infested with maggots!). Also bought an English black truffle which seemed like comparatively good value and was in much better condition. Porcini for a late lunch and truffles with spaetzle for dinner.

I could only find one stall on Borough Market selling fresh porcini, making it pretty much the only obvious place in London to buy them. They therefore commanded a fairly ridiculous premium.

Taking another look at the porcini in Terry's Cafe, where I went for breakfast.

Back at home examining the porcini again.

Unfortunately the bigger of the two turned out to be maggot infested so after all that effort and expense this small plate of mushrooms on toast was all we ended up with!

For dinner, spatezle with cheese and fake bacon topped with black truffle. This was much more successful.
