Wednesday 22nd September 2021
Today was the autumn equinox, so I got up early today to go and watch the sunrise from Hampstead Heath. Then went back later to catch the sunset as well.
London September 2021
On arrival on the heath.
Quite magical this time of day.
Nice bit of morning mist looking over towards Highgate
Unfortunately when I attempted to zoom in I just got a blurry photo.
Heading up Parliament Hill, the moon still visible in the sky.
If only I could get a decent photo of the moon with my phone's camera!
The London skyline before dawn.
Nice pink sky emerging.
More vain attempts to take a photo of the moon. It never works!
Anyway things starting to get more interesting on the sunrise front now.
I thought I'd take a self timer shot just to remember I was here.
Looking back towards the moon again.
Lovely pinks and peach colours now.
The wisp of mist was a nice touch too.
Hard to write comments for all these photos.
This seemed like a good vantage point, slightly off the top of Parliament Hill, to watch the actua moment of sunrise.
That conical shaped tree provided an interesting point of focus.
Here it is again.
I think I zoomed in a bit too much here.
I liked the look of the glistening dew on the grass in the foreground here, although not sure it really came out very well in this photo.
So many photos.
Ah well hopefully you can see the glistening dew here.
This is rather nice I think.
The conical tree looks a bit like a candle here.
This is a bit beyond the capabilities of my phone camera's zoom, but still I'm rather pleased with this.
...and I'm still snapping away.
More vain attempts to take a photo of the moon.
Short video to attempt to capture the atmosphere of that morning.
I think this is pretty nice actually.
So many nice shots to be had this morning.
This has a pleasing drama to it.
Finally after much fiddling about (and perhaps better lighting conditions?), a photo of the moon where you can actually see a bit of the surface properly, rather than just a bright white blob.
That's slightly better again.
OK so it's not entirely impossible then.
Yet more photos of the early morning sun.
Attempted to get an action shot of a crow taking off.
OK time to head home!
A few final shots before parting the heath.... for now...
After work, I decided to just head back to the heath again, to catch the sunset.
The woods looking very pleasant in the late afternoon / early evening sun.
I brought along some Gevrey Chambertin and some Jagariko for the sunset.
Nice clouds here, the view from the barrow.
Me having a short chat with a crow.
The sky starting to look a bit pink.
Decided to leave the barrow at this point and head over to Parliament Hill.
Back through the woods.
...starting to look a bit sunsetty at Parliament Hill.
It seemed there were quite a few people gathered here for a midweek evening - where they also here because of the equinox?
Pink clouds and two blokes on a bench.
Video of the sunset, such as it was.
As always the sunset was mostly obscured by trees, and nowhere near as photo worthy as the sunrise had been this morning... but it was still nice to be here regardless.
The London skyline going a bit pink.
OK time to head home!
