john.Misc john.Whisky

Here are the humble beginnings of what could become quite an elaborate section on my passion for whisky. At the moment it's pretty much just a set of links to other parts of the site where whisky has cropped up in some form or other.

Back to the Maison de Stuff.

Sections

The main sections of my whisky pages...

- Whiskies
Past and present whiskies in my collection.

Articles

Articles I've written on the Maison weblog about whisky...

- Whisky
A general article written when I first started getting into whisky.
- Lagavulin
Written on purchasing my first bottle of the marvellous Lagavulin
- Islay Malts
Marking the purchase of the Port Ellen 1979, which I was rather excited about at the time, as well as the Laphroaig 15 year old, and then a general stocktake of all the Islay malts I own.
- More Island Malts
Detailing a few more purchases of some interesting malts - Talisker Distiller's Edition, Scapa and Edradour.
- Ardbeg, Ledaig, Longrow
Three more single malt acquisitions.

Pictures

Pictures I've taken involving whisky somehow or other.

- Stirling
A visit to Stirling for a conference, including a trip to the Glenturret distillery.
- Inverness
A weekend away in the Inverness area, including a visit to the Glenlivet distillery.
- Whisky Bar at the Athanaeum Hotel
A visit to this marvelous whisky bar on a daytrip to London.

Distilleries

Websites of the distillieries which produce some of my favourite whiskies.

- Laphroaig
Largely responsible for getting me into whisky, and still a firm favourite.
- Bruichladdich
I actually first tasted Bruichladdich in Japan, where in a tiny little shop I came across a slightly unusual 15 year old bottling.
- Ardbeg
Another Islay malt, the only one which (to date) I have never actually owned a bottle of, although have drank on a number occasions.
- Bowmore
Apparently one of the oldest distilleries of all.

Links

Other whisky related sites that I like and/or use on a regular basis.

- The Whisky Exchange
UK based whisky mail order service, with a really excellent selection of malts you'll find hard to get hold of elsewhere.
- Whisky Magazine
Lots of good reviews and so on available on the website. Interestingly enough, I have once purchased the French edition of this magazine to try and kill some time whilst waiting for a delayed flight at Toulouse airport.
- La Maison Du Whisky
Handy to know about if you're ever in Paris and in need of a good malt. I've never actually been but have included the link here at least in part because I'm rather fond of the shop's name - does it remind you of a certain website by any chance?
- ScotchWhisky.net
A general whisky site.
- Scotchwhisky.com
Another (different!) whisky site.
