Here are extracts from a song which I fancy:
Voici quelques extraits d’une chanson que j’aime beaucoup:
Song: Je suis un Homme
Album: Totem
Artist : Zazie
Composer : Jean-Pierre Pilot
Je suis un homme et je mesure toute l’horreur de ma nature.
I’m a man and I understand the horror of my nature.
Sitting in front of my television, I represent the negation of my kind, a pure consumer product.
I’m a man facing the wall, a blunder in Mother Nature’s scheme.
I dominate the World and look what I did of it: an icy place, a burning place.
I make love and revolution, [...] yet I go backward.
I mould the World the way I want, casting it in gold and concrete.

It is Man's main problem - he must dominate and control. That is, I guess, why He is so successful in spreading His spore all over the world.
Interesting idea.
However I remember a song by Howard Jones, back in the early 80's. It's called Human's Lib. He basically says that we *are* natural. To deny that is to place upon our shoulders a yoke we do not deserve.
I was born. I do my best. That's natural.
I would add - we should also be RESPONSIBLE in our use of resources.

Man is self-centered and selfish.
Self-centered, ie he doesn't care much about the fate of other species.
Selfish, ie he doesn't care much about the fate of his own species.
I don't mind his selfishness towards his pairs (it's part of our nature, I guess). But I can stand the fact that he is self-centered.

Yes, that is true. It is a goal to aim for - not being selfish.
To be a part of our environment rather than to despise it, perhaps?
What people forget (I believe) is that they make their own environment. It just needs a change of attitude to produce a better environment for us - and the world's other creatures.

Things are slowly changing. Your grand grand children might have a different mentality, less product and profit driven and a bit more considerate of he place where we live. Internet is spreading knowledge that in the past was not there, and with awareness people will walk towards change (i hope).
As for now, we are still in the midst of a selfish age, where nothing counts but us... So Nature is just another thing that people do not care about, sadly...

I wish you're right about our children, Lox. Only I fear it'll be too late. The changes they will have to suffer will be unpleasant and drastic.

Do not loose hope and try to make the best as you can... then time will be judge and we will not be there to see it, but at least whenever we will go to a better life we will leave this world thinking that we did all we could... :P AND YOU HAVE THREE OF THEM MATE!!! :D
