Playing golf

The driving range

So, now that I give English classes in the evening (mostly to beginners who don't spot my numerous mistakes) and earn thereupon a little money, I decided to renew my subscription as a member of the national golf federation. For I love golf. Not the snobbish side of it. I love vast expanses of impeccable lawn strewn with groves. I love playing in the early morning, when grass is still covered with dew. Or in the late afternoon when people start deserting the course and nature recedes into stillness.

This morning I did an hour of practice. I was relatively glad of myself. I didn't lose my touch. In fact, paradoxically and though my left arm is now in great pain, I believe I improved my swing.

One thing is important when playing golf. You have to remain humble. Unless you're really good at it. As I was doing some practice, an old man smoking a cigare came to play by my side. I told myself : "I'm going to impress the old schmuck" ! Well... it was a disaster. Luckily for me, he wasn't too good either and, regaining confidence, I managed to save the day.
Keep humble is the key word.

Yes, there is at least one aspect of Golf that I really like, and that's the actual courses. Vistas which are actually 3D puzzles...

Other than that my only claim to golfing fame is being banned from a club! ;)

Ah well!! Years ago I worked for an engineering supply company. We used to hold "events" for good customers. One year this was a golf tournament. Apparently I walked - with my trolley - too close to the club house. In fact I walked *into* the club house with my trolley, left it at the entrance and then proceeded to order myself a drink (Guinnesss would you believe!). I had previously availed myself of a Guinness or two before...

This had been the only way I could cope with the tediousness of being "nice" to so many customers for a whole day...

As I say, I was then summarily banned from the club, forever! :))

Although, as *we* ourselves were customers, who had hired the club for the day, this seemed a little arrogant, I felt. Banning their customer - I was manager at the time!

I would have set the clubhouse to fire (after the guiness) and needless to say I would have avoided that place forever in the future!

Hardly believable. Are you sure you told me everything, Nigel? You say you had a pint or two before... Was it just one or two ?

:))))))) Good idea Lox!!
Sheri: It's true! though time has dimmed my memory in the area of exactly how many Guinnesses I had drunk! However, be assured despite inebriation I always remain affable, friendly and polite! The ban was *not* due to my love of Irish stout!! :))

Hey Sheri.

I am starting to get tired of writing my blog, the fact that so many people I know "in real life" read it means that I often can't say what I really want to, or I find people just do not understand the things I want to say.

Is it OK if I hang around here for a bit?

I think I got your point, John.

But, honestly, what can I say? Being frank with one's entourage does rarely pay. I tend to be like that with my mum. As a result, we haven't spoken together for two years...
Il faut s'efforcer de ménager les susceptibilités de chacun. One has to consider one's touchiness. I can't.

As for the people who don't understand you, I fear I might not help you there. Cose I'm not sure I understand you either...

You'r welcome to dwell in my bit of la Maison...
