If I fail...

Posted on 2007/01/04 08:02:41 (January 2007).

A new year, but no resolutions. I know my limits and I'm too weak minded to stick to them.

I'd like to write more often on the blog, but really I haven't got anything worthwhile to say. I don't want to bore you with sordid details of a very common, uneventful life.

I finished the writing of a second scenario which despite the title, A French summer, is not a remake of A Syrian Summer. If I kept most of the characters, if the spirit remains pretty much the same, the dialogues are, apart from a few scenes, entirely different. And so is the setting. The structure is lighter, more spontenuous.

My part time job as an English teatcher suits me fine. Money is no longer a cause of great concern and my students, all adults, are very much pleasant to work with.

I decided to resume my correspondence course in landscape architecture, which I suspended for six weeks in order to rest and write a little. The writing is not over though, as I intend to work on a third script which I wrote about a year ago: My Grandfather's Diary. It needs a quick brush and a polishing, but it is in my opinion the best work I have done so far.

I ordered The Writer's Handbook 2007 which I hope will prove to be of some help.

I'll be a scriptwriter. I'm determined.
It is not a resolution. It is a declaration of faith and in that sense, my new motto is aut Caesar, aut nihil ! For the benefit of the uneducated, it's latin and means: "(I'll be) either emperor, or nothing (i.e. or I die)". There won't be any compromise. If I fail...

Good to see an entry, Sheri!! I feel sure you will succeed as a scriptwriter - you have the talent and ability. Have no doubts. (I *am* reading the script!).

If you get any knock-backs, do not consider them failures. That is a mistake. All the time you are polishing your skills, learning your trade. This is invaluable! :)

I must agree with Nigel's line. Bad experiences, refusals and so on are actually good once you put them in prospective. The important thing is that you have a target to work for (Caesar), then it's easier! I am waiting for the new stuff anyway, when will it be ready?

Am I the only one to have the feeling that Brinsley and I count for nothing? Is success an end it itself? Just let me know what you think on the maison because I'm kind of feeling useless right now...

'course you're not useless my pet! You're the only girl willing to cope with my foul temper and bad faith! That's priceless, no doubt.
(+ you'r great at making love...! But that's only secondary...)

Sheri: Were you able to meet John? And how was your Christmas? You see, there is plenty you can tell us and not be boring at all!! ;)))

Keep at it, Sheri, and you won't fail. I wish I could find time to do some writing (literary as against scripts) but my work intervenes too much - I will send you my last effort, OK? "The Writer's Handbook 2007" sounds interesting... Will have to look into that. I have started on the first "Le Sursis" book (with my trusty Harraps French-English dictionary at hand!), thanks so much again - I hope you got my email about that :-)

All the best to you, Christelle and Brinsley for 2007!!!
