An interesting facePosted on 2007/05/08 09:36:36 (May 2007).
Now just take a good look at the picture. It is a silver coin, a Roman denarus, struck in 56 BC. It depicts the features of King Ancus Marcius, an alleged ancestor of consul Lucius Marcius Philippus who commissioned this issue.
At first, I bought it for the face which is very republican in spirit, that is emacieted and a bit austere, as opposed to the coarse, gross features of the first emperors (Nero, Vitellius, Vespasian,...).
Then I found out (on wikipedia) that Marcius Philippus was a friend of Cicero, and that he wedded Atia, Caesar's niece, who had already got two children from a first marriage. Those children were none other than Octavia and Octavius, the latter being destined the become the first Roman emperor... !
I said to myself "wow"! Didn't know that. What a pleasant surprise it was indeed.

Well together with the Mona Lisa you should return this STOLEN property to it's rightful owner (i.e. Italy). Thanks :D

For your information, Da Vinci died in France, in the château d'Amboise to be precise. King François I had befriended him. The Mona Lisa painting was not stolen but legally purchased.
Ignorant man that you are...!

Mona Lisa? If it isn't in a British Museum it probably isn't worth stealing.

It's just that basically French economy depends on the Mona Lisa because if that painting wasn't in Paris the incoming of tourists would drop by a gazzillion units. THERE! :D (ha yes she looks rather homo)
