An interesting face
Now just take a good look at the picture. It is a silver coin, a Roman denarus, struck in 56 BC. It depicts the features of King Ancus Marcius, an alleged ancestor of consul Lucius Marcius Philippus who commissioned this issue.
At first, I bought it for the face which is very republican in spirit, that is emacieted and a bit austere, as opposed to the coarse, gross features of the first emperors (Nero, Vitellius, Vespasian,...).
Then I found out (on wikipedia) that Marcius Philippus was a friend of Cicero, and that he wedded Atia, Caesar's niece, who had already got two children from a first marriage. Those children were none other than Octavia and Octavius, the latter being destined the become the first Roman emperor... !
I said to myself "wow"! Didn't know that. What a pleasant surprise it was indeed.

Pas de nouvelles, bonnes nouvelles...- Which means: No news, good news! If I don't write, it means that everything goes fine. You all know I only add entries when I feel the need to give vent to my grief...
Grief. Mmmm. In less than one hour, the polling stations will close. In all probability le petit roquet enragé, i.e. Sarkozy, will be our newly-elected president. To face the blow, I've decided to go stupefy myself with wine.
Vive la France !
