Just testing
Sorry, Sheri didn't actually write this - John was just trying to see if he had fixed the double posting problem.

Home, Sweet Home !

So here you have a few pics of our living room I took this morning. As you can see, it's a neo-colonial furniture which wasn't too expensive (apart from the sofa) and has a certain "cachet". We are still looking for a suitable coffee table.

Together with the living room, we have a rather large kitchen, two bedrooms, a desk room with a mezzanine where we "retire" to watch TV (it could be converted into another bedroom), a bathroom, a toilet room (without bidet, unfortunately!), a small loggia, a laundry room and a nice terrace with a view.
We also have a garage and an attic above it.
It isn't big in itself (approx. 100 m2), but well laid out.

The area is pleasant and quiet, at a stone's throw away from Vienne. The countryside is at our very doorstep. As for the neighbours, they're just wonderful! It's another world! They're obliging and ever smiling. Quite a change from our previous flat. Not to mention that we are now members of the "owners' club" .. or "creditors'club", if you prefer !

The only thing which puts me off is the price. We bought it nearly twice the price it was 7 years ago ! I remember it all started with the Twin Towers attack. The stock market suffered a blow. Investors rushed and sought refuge in real estates. From then on property prices never stopped rising.
Experts and real estate professionals claim that the demand is higher than the offer, hence the rise. But that's bullshit ! Seven years ago, the demand was equivalent. They're manipulating the market. They know what they do. Fuckers.

Tu me fais CHIER... !
That's was I told my father-in-law today as we moved the great bulk of my furniture in my new flat. In italiano vuole dire 'Mi fa cagare'. In English I would roughly translate it by 'You're a pain in the arse'. which he truly was! I'm 32 (yes, hard to believe, huh?!) and there he was, like a general on a battlefield, telling me what to do in MY flat, with MY furniture. Ten times he came asking me, with an inquisitorial tone, what I was doing, almost indignant that I didn't confer with him. He's always on my tail, requesting justification as to each and everyone of my doings! I just had enough of it. And I told him so.

Now, a little later Christelle came to tell me than my offhand attitude had upset her father. In short, I was an ungrateful little bugger who should be more thankful and considerate towards her father.

Not once Jean-Pierre would ask himself if there is a reason for me to behave in such a manner.
Not once he would consider the following question: 'Am I going to far with him?'
Not once he would say: 'Perhaps I should stop taking decisions in his stead. Perhaps I should give him a break ?'

Can you imagine he told me off, like a father scolds his child, because I put a toolbox on MY kitchen table, risking in so doing to scratch it. ?!!! Can you imagine that ???

And Christelle in all that ? Well. still as helpless as ever ! Sometimes I feel like a stranger, wonder if she is my wife all right.

Help and advise, yes. Decide, no.
Brinsley: when Humphrey Bogart meets Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones).

Yesterday, I had an argument with Daničle, my mother-in-law, as I was busy refreshing the painting in our new flat. Daničle and her husband, Jean-Pierre, are kindly helping us with our move. They are generous and kind-hearted. I'm very glad to have such in-laws and I would be highly ungrateful to claim otherwise. No ground for complaint thus. apart from the fact that, sometimes, Daničle tends to get too "involved". She doesn't always realise that advising is one thing, deciding (for us) quite another. When a decision has to be made regarding my own "household" (i.e. my son, my relationship with my wife, my house), she tends to interfere. I don't always like that. And yesterday I made it clear to her. Without great tact. For tact is not my best asset. Daničle, being spasmophilic, had an attack. Well, an attack (or a fit) is perhaps too strong a word. I believe she was overdoing it and I told her so. I told her she wouldn't succeed to make me feel guilty. And indeed I don't feel so.
I'm not a monster. Nor am I trying to clear myself. These past weeks, I have been making tangible efforts to become more conciliatory. Particularly with my mother-in-law. Yesterday was an accident. And I don't take it too seriously. So should she.
My problem: I still fly quickly off the handle.
Her problem: she is very touchy.
In fact, we are very much alike. Too much alike.

Oh well, tomorrow is another day, as they say...
