NFL Game Preview: Dallas Cowboys at Atlanta Falcons

Posted on 2006/12/16 01:02:26 (December 2006).

The Dallas Cowboys (8-5) take on the Atlanta Falcons (7-6) With serious playoff repercussions, the Dallas Cowboys challenge the #2 team in the NFC South. Dallas needs a win to stay in the driver's seat in the NFC East.

Quarter Back Tony Romo, fresh off of two poor ratings (sub 60.0 Passer Rating), hopes to re-establish himself as a solid QB, one who was looking very good as of three weeks ago. Atlanta's D might be a good candidate to get Romo back on track. While the Falcons have 17 INTs this season, they have also allowed 17 passing TDs and more than 230 yards per game (2nd last in the NFL)
Projection: 243 yards, 1.25 TD, 1.75 INT

Running Back Julius Jones was the lone bright spot on the offensive unit last week, as his 77 yard gallup accounted for essentially all of Dallas's offense ine the first half. Marion Barber never had a chance to get started, but he will likely have to spell Jones as the Falcons are 10th best against the run.
Julius Jones: 16 carries, 71 yards; 11 yards receiving
Marion Barber: 11 carries, 48 yards; 6 yards receiving; TD

Tight Ends While Anthony Fasano hasn't caught a pass over the past two games, Jason Witten has caught three or more passes for ten straight games. He has 28 1st downs on his 49 receptions.
Jason Witten: 3 receptions, 35 yards

Wide Receivers Terry Glenn's speed and TO's size and athletiism could pose an interesting challenge for Atlanta's secondary. That secondary has allowed twenty different receivers this season to go for at least sixty yards. I think you can add two to this list that week.
Terry Glenn: 4 receptions, 61 yards, .5 TD
Terrell Owens: 5 receptions, 83 yards, .75 TD

Game Outlook A win for Atlanata moves them into a Wild Card spot (or right there in the pack at least). Atlanta will likely struggle mightily unless Vick and his receivers can establish a rapport the likes of which we haven't seen this year from Atlanta.

Dallas 21, Atlanta 17
