Onsen
Wednesday 12th February 2014
Went to stay at the Daikanso Onsen Hotel on Yashiro Island tonight. Took rather a long time to get there thanks to a broken down car on a level crossing, thus the number of pictures on the train while we were trying to kill time.

Erika having breakfast.

14:37:53
On the train on the way to Yashiro Island now. Erika having her afternoon nap.

14:38:03
I found the colour of this can coffee interesting. The contents were the same as any other can coffee though.

15:53:15
Erika having a look out the front of the train.

16:03:51
Group shot on the train.

16:04:13
Erika and her parents.

16:14:00
As we'd bought Hirofumi-san a tweed cap it seemed a good opportunity for a picture of three generation of Moriwakis in tweed caps.

16:14:05
This one is a bit better.

16:16:17
Erika playing with the suitcase.

16:16:59
I thought this heron was fake as it was still for so long. It was in fact real.

16:17:23
The station where we waited for about 45 minutes owing to a car stuck on a level crossing.

16:20:41
Peek...

16:20:44
...a-boo!

16:25:47
Proof that the heron was in fact real.

16:49:35
Finally we arrived at Obatake station, just across that green bridge from our destination on Yashiro island.

17:02:31
View from the hotel lobby. The window needs a clean.

17:02:43
Erika wandering round the hotel's lobby.

17:09:17
The rotenburo (outdoor bath) attached to our room.

17:16:16
Erika testing the water.

17:18:14
The view from our room.

17:19:13
Erika inspecting our room.

17:23:38
A ship (mainly I was testing the zoom on my new camera).

17:26:28
Chie and Erika having some Japanese tea in our room.

17:26:43

17:28:34

17:40:35
Four generations of Moriwaki ladies - Erika with her Mum, Grandmother and Great Grandmother (not in order!).

17:44:10
The green bridge linking Yashiro island to Japan's main island (Honshu).

17:44:52
Looked a bit tropical here, and we could just about see a bit of the sunset from our room.

17:48:07
The bath again.

17:48:18

18:01:10

18:06:31
A very "east meets west" sort of picture - it usually take me a while at an onsen before I feel it appropriate to wear the provide yukata.

18:14:13
Our table laid for dinner.

18:16:49
Here's everyone apart from me sitting down. I love that they gave Erika her own little chair.

18:18:23
(some of) my specially prepared vegetarian meal.

18:18:36
Chie's parents and their meals.

18:25:54
My nabe with tofu etc.

18:27:07
Erika and her parents.

18:27:21

18:33:19
A tempura course as part of my meal.

18:41:46
Not even sure what you call this kind of dish, but it looked photo worthy.

18:46:34
Erika likes pointing.

19:10:44
Group shot of all of us taken by a member of the hotel's staff - a bit wonky and could have been zoomed in a bit more, but she seemed busy and I didn't want to detain her.

19:18:31
Erika standing on her chair. It made a sort of squeaky noise.

19:18:36

19:56:47
Our beds laid out back in our room.

20:11:07
Night view from our outdoor bath.

20:13:01
While the girls went to the communal bath, I decided to have a soak in our own private bath.

20:14:01
...much better for the addition of beer.

20:33:10

21:53:34
I finally succumed to the yukata.

23:08:43
The safety deposit envelope - not sure why we have a picture of this!

23:17:18
Me brushing my teeth in a yukata.
