New Year's Eve
Tuesday 31st December 2019
I went for a walk in the morning - a circular walk starting and ending at Liss, with a section of the Shipwrights Way on the way towards Petersfield, a lunch stop at the Harrow Inn at Steep, then back to Liss via part of the Hangers Way. In the evening we had local friends over for New Year's Eve.

11:22:38
Start of my walk, on the outskirts of Liss.

11:23:49
Stodham Lane.

11:28:02

11:31:23
Houses near (or part of?) Stodham Park.

11:31:28

11:35:59
Nice high sided lane near Stodham Park.

11:36:42

11:42:10
I was following the Shipwrights Way.

11:51:52
Unfortunately the Shipwrights Way briefly followed the A3, which wasn't that nice.

12:02:34
...but it was only a few minutes, after which I returned to quieter scenery.

12:04:32
On arriving in the village of Steep, I was greeted by this picturesque cottage beside a stream.

12:08:18
The back of the Harrow Inn.

12:08:34
The Harrow Inn sign.

12:09:04
The front of the Harrow Inn.

12:10:24
The bar at the Harrow Inn.

12:14:34
I statted off with a local perry.

12:20:26
Leafing through the CAMRA book of pub interiors.

12:23:41
The inglenook fireplace at the Harrow Inn, and, incidentally, my lunch.

12:35:02
I thought the Christmas decorations at the Harrow Inn were extremely tasteful.

12:40:01
Outside the Harrow Inn again.

12:58:45
Heading through Steep towards the Hangers Way.

13:02:44
The church in Steep.

13:04:22
Heading out of Steep via this area of ancient semi-natural English woodland.

13:07:04
Through aforementioned woodland.

13:08:20

13:10:40
...then across a big field.

13:14:08
...the other side of the field, an old mill stream, now a gushing waterfall.

13:15:52
Observation hut.

13:26:21
Along the Hangers Way.

13:26:45
At the bottom of Shoulder of Mutton hill.

13:29:51
Heading up Shoulder of Mutton hill.

13:32:38
It was really quite steep!

13:34:14

13:36:42
A shame the weather wasn't a bit nicer - on a day with blue skies the views from here must be absolutely glorious.

13:37:58

13:39:28
Nearly at the top now.

13:40:58

13:42:50
At the top. Had to pause here for a bit to catch my breath!

13:47:05
Walking along the Hangers Way at the top of Shoulder of Mutton hill.

13:49:13
A pony.

13:54:32
A tree leaning over rather a lot.

13:56:44

13:57:47
This other viewpoint (Cobbett's View) was even more marred by the weather.

13:57:49
Trig point over there too.

13:57:56

14:08:33
On the way to Liss from Shoulder of Mutton Hill.

14:18:58
Last before Liss.

14:53:31
At Liss station.

15:27:45
I broke up my return journey to revisit the Real English Drinks House in Haslemere, to stock up on ESW for NYE.

15:28:17
...it occupies part of Haslemere Post Office!

15:28:32
A very impressive selection.

20:01:49
Back at home, later on, cataloguing the wines I bought in Haslemere. Unfortunately this bottle of Upperton Tenebris was a bit faulty (a weird smell which really didn't seem right), and we decided not to drink it.

20:02:27
Hattingley - this was the best of the three wines we had this evening.

20:03:09
A Magnum of Wiston - this wasn't quite at its best either to be honest (but still drinkable at least, unlike the Upperton).

22:52:27
With our friends who came over for NYE, trying the "Nez du Vin" set for training your nose to recongise different aromas in wine.
