Sunrise on the Heath
Sunday 17th January 2021
Woke up early to go and watch the sunrise on the heath.
London January 2021
On arrival at the heath, already some pink in the sky,
The bandstand with the dawn sky.
Maybe this is a nicer composition than the previous photo.
The little viewpoint just before the top of Parliament Hill, where the skyline is nicely framed by trees.
Now at the top of Parliament Hill. Quite a contrast between the majestic sky and the grandeur of the London skyline vs the sea of mud in the foreground.
Zoomed in to crop out the mud.
Zoomed in on the London skyline here. You can very clearly make out a bunch of notable buildings.
...and a load of cranes.
I didn't want to get in anyone else's way so I spent a lot of my time here standing back from the path a bit, and consequently in some of these photos it felt like I was taking pictures of other people watching the sunrise, rather than just me watching the sunrise myself.
Someone of a more poetic nature than I might try and ascribe some meaning to that.
However some people in the foreground just help provide a bit more photographic interest and give more options for different compositions to play around with.
Lots of joggers stopped as they passed the top of Parliament Hill to look at the sunrise.
Gradually more people arrived to watch.
Colours changing now.
The sun starting to poke out from behind Canary Wharf.
Pinks turning to orange.
Very orange now.
I zoomed out again to get a sense of the broader scene.
From now on you're going to have to accept this sort of lens flare effect I'm afraid.
Definitely the sun there.
It's odd the way it reflects the sun like that, presumably something to do with the mirrors inside the camera or somesuch.
Running out of things to say.
The bench I was standing next to, lit up nicely by the morning sun.
I decided I'd seen the best of it by this point and it was time to head back.
A few more shots on the way down Parliament Hill.
