To Bermondsey and Back Again
Friday 26th March 2021
My company had another global day off today, under normal circumstances I would have liked to go for a walk in the countryside, but frustratingly that relaxation of the ridiculous rules wouldn't come until the following Monday. So instead I did a long walk in London - all the way to the Angel in Bermondsey, about a 15 mile round trip in total.

John's Pictures

10:05:58
St. Pancras Old Church, a couple of miles into my walk.

10:08:45
Took this photo for an in-joke with Andrew about radiator cabinets.

10:19:07
I think I've photographed this building before, near King's Cross, presumably an old warehouse or something. I find it oddly appealing.

10:39:38
St. Andrew's Holborn. Not really sure why I took a photo of this, it just seemed interesting at the time I suppose.

10:47:05
St. Paul's Cathedral.

10:49:25
Some sort of blossom to the south of St. Paul's.

10:49:54

10:50:50
What?

10:52:15
The Millenium Bridge.

10:52:49
The view of the Thames from the Millenium Bridge.

10:56:19
Looking back across the Millenium Bridge to St Paul's.

11:29:24
Manze's on Tower Bridge Road.

12:04:49
I carried my pie and mash from Manze's on to the little terrace beside the Angel in Bermondsey, and ate it there, with the maritime air of the Thames wafting over me.

12:05:01
Trying to get a nice shot.

12:07:07
Looks a bit of a mess once the liquor is applied!

12:07:10
This was actually very nice, but the plastic cutlery struggled a bit with the pastry.

12:26:13
Brought along a bottle of Nyetimber.

13:07:26
A little while after Andrew joined me it started to rain a bit. Although this looks like the same bit of wall, it's actually a spot a little further along the river where the path goes through a sort of brick colonnade, and there's a bit of shelter from the rain. Other people similarly took shelter there and it was quite jolly.

13:12:12
The view from the colonnade, of a very grey and wet Tower Bridge (zoomed in quite a bit).

13:12:21
There were some sailing ships moored near Tower Bridge which I thought would make for a nice shot, but I think it's all a bit too zoomed in and faded out because of the weather.

14:17:39
It brightened up a bit later on and we returned to the usual spot.

14:42:19
Back at the usual spot with fish and chips. Despite having already had pie and mash earlier I also had a bag of chips, theorising that with my nearly 15 mile walk today I'd easily burn it off. Not sure that worked out in practice.

15:45:15
Looking the other way along the river.

16:37:23
On my walk back home now, passing back near Tower Bridge once again.

16:38:36

16:53:43
Near Canon Street station.

17:02:21
London Stone.

17:26:20
Holborn Viaduct.

17:29:43
The alleyway leading to Ye Old Mitre.

17:38:16
Andrew's Restaurant.

17:51:09
St Pancras and Kings Cross, as the sky was starting to turn slightly pink.

17:54:29
My new office apparently. Not sure if I'll ever go there.

19:27:29
Back at home now, an Easter present from Mum which arrived in the post today.
