Deliveries

Posted on 2005/12/30 14:20:18 (December 2005).

[Thursday 29th December]
Well, today was the last working day of the year for me. My company (at least the Japnese subsidiary) would be officially closed for the "year end holidays" over the next six days.

I left work a bit early to get home so I could be there to receive some deliveries. During the course of the evening we had a new washing machine and fridge delivered, plus also the manager from our previous abode turned up to return some of Chie's things which had actually been thrown away just before we moved. So now we have a pretty much complete apartment - all of the basic appliances and furnishings required to live somewhere.

As Chie got home a bit later than me, the fridge and washing machine people had to deal with me alone. Naturally they didn't speak any English (why should they?) so I had to receive the basic instructions for these appliances entirely in Japanese. As you might expect I didn't fully understand these long technical explanations, so watch this space for news of an unfortunate domestic accident!

After all of the deliveries we turned our thoughts to dinner. Feeling lazy we initially considered ordering in a pizza. Given that this works out rather expensive in Japan, we decided it might be better to brave the cold weather and eat out instead. We walked as far as Meidaimae (a big station which is about a 15 minute walk away), but somehow failed to find anywhere decent to eat. Instead we ended up just buying a few odds and ends and eating back at home.

While trawlling the mystical roads of the interweb looking for the fabled wizard Brightstar,I came across a likeness of you"Dr John Hawkins" who appears to resemble the eternal mage(though slightly distorted due to disrupted spell practise or possibly age?).I have read parts of your travel journal and will report my finding to the council on this blatant disregard of your duties to the people of Skara.Enough of my ranting,I must return to Skara and see how my wife and daughter are coping(five years of age and already bettering me with the dagger).I shall read in your journal if you recieve my message and look further to corresponding on the mystical interweb,it's alot quicker than eagle! Also what is this washing machine you speak of?It sounds like one of Daraki's fiendish plots!!!!!Farewell and luck in your journeys likeness of Brightstar!

Ashley...? Could it really be?

Blimey I am almost speechless!

It must be about 9 years since I last saw you...? It has probably been about the same amount of time since I last went along to anything Manticore related, and yet strangely I still get these disturbing dreams every now and again... Usually I am attempting to run away from a "Billy monster", or sometimes Dave Shaw (not as anything, just Dave Shaw).

I still owned a couple of latex weapons up until this year when I moved abroad and had to thin down my posessions a bit. I couldn't bear to just throw them away though, so passed them on to a friend who is apparently making good use of them.

You may have noticed that I now live in Tokyo, which is all a bit odd. Me and Chie were both at university down in Reading together, and after a few years living around that area decided to upsticks and leave for Japan. I have a job here with "a famous software company" doing stuff to do with digital TV.

I've not really kept in touch with anyone from the Manticore days - only Russ really. Actually I saw him a couple of months back, if you are interested I als;o took some pictures... Here

Anyway, very nice to hear from you - please feel free to drop me an email - the address is in the left hand column of this page.
