Sunday in the Midlands

Posted on 2012/07/17 13:24:11 (July 2012).

[Sunday 15th July 2012]
Chie wanted to go for a walk in the morning, so we headed out from Mum's house and ventured as far as the Aeropark, a sort of outdoor aviation museum on the perimeter fence of East Midlands Airport. Not really my sort of thing, but I suppose it was a bit different at least.

Back to Mum's for Sunday lunch, and then a leisurely few hours sitting around afterwards before getting the train back to London.

Wow wow wow! Hang on there! Did I miss something? The bride looks ... pregnant?! I doubt she's been putting on weight...

Yes that's right! Due in September.

I am sincerely, genuinely, wholeheartedly happy for you both. Congrats! Les enfants, c'est le sel de la vie! Children bring flavour to one's life, you'd say in English.

Thanks Sheri!

Interesting how "sel" translates as flavour there - doesn't it mean salt?

Yes. In the Middle Ages salt was a rare commodity and considered a (heavily taxed) luxury, like spices. By today's standards, the meals were bland. Hence the phrase. Life would be bland without children.
